Hành lá và mùi tàu rửa sạch, thái nhỏ, hành tím và tỏi đập dập, băm nhỏ, ớt thái vát.
Ướp thịt với hành tím và tỏi băm, 1/2 thìa cà phê hạt tiêu, 1 thìa cà phê hạt nêm, 1 thìa cà phê nước mắm, hành lá thái nhỏ, mùi tàu thái nhỏ, đảo đều và ướp trong khoảng 15 phút.
Bầu rửa thật sạch vỏ ngoài rồi cắt thành từng khoanh dày khoảng 3cm, khoét bỏ ruột, tiếp tục rửa lại bằng nước sạch rồi để ráo.
Khéo léo nhồi thịt đã ướp vào bầu, sao cho thịt băm nằm gọn gàng bên trong miếng bầu.
Cho 1 lượng nước vừa phải vào nồi, đun sôi rồi thả từng khoanh bầu đã nhồi thịt vào nồi. Lưu ý, khi đổ nước, bạn áng chừng sao cho lượng nước cao ngang bằng mặt bầu thì món canh sẽ ngon ngọt, đậm vị hơn nhé!
Cho thêm vào nồi 1/2 thìa cà phê bột canh, 1 thìa cà phê mắm để món canh dậy mùi thơm hơn, đun sôi tầm khoảng 10-15 phút là bầu sẽ chín. Đổ hành lá, mùi tàu thái nhỏ và vài lát ớt vào nồi (nếu bạn thích ăn cay). Nêm nếm nước canh cho vừa vặn là có thể tắt bếp.
