Great for someone considering a career in sales

hen I was a sophomore in college, I took my one and only sales class. I enjoyed it and decided that's what I wanted to do. Little did I know that 35+ years later it would become my life's work. I only wish that back the beginning I had been given LinkedIn Sales Professional Jesse Rothstein's new book Carry That Quota. This book should be required reading in EVERY college sales program. I have read hundreds of sales books over the years and most are trying to get you to take on or buy their "new" sales method. Jesse focuses on the WHY and the HOW to become a true sales professional. He has broken into three sections: 1. Know thyself - Are you right for this career? 2. Relationships - Customer, coworkers, and self-development 3. Tools and tips of the trade - Basics to build from This practicing Sales Professional can help you understand IF this profession is for you and then can give you enough tips to get off to a solid start on the road to becoming a true Sales Professional.

Great read for the rep!

I've read a handful of sales books throughout my career, but Carry That Quota was the first one that felt genuine and relatable. The author's tales as a rep reminded me of some of the experiences that I've had and the book made me think critically about those experiences and how they've helped shape me into the rep I am today. The "real-ness" of the book made it a true page-turner, which is rare for a sales book, and I found myself wanting more. He blended tools & tips alongside stories in a way that kept me engaged throughout. I also found myself taking notes as I realized that I have some blind spots that needed refining and I really liked the author's approach, especially around calendar organization, taking full advantage of downtime, and a repeatable note-taking strategy. Highly recommend this book for anyone who's still early in their sales career or anyone who's contemplating a transition into sales.

The personal makes all the difference

I would like to recommend Jesse Rothstein’s book Carry That Quota. What jumps off page after page is the importance of the personal connections, the importance of the team. We live in a world that is-sadly- over connected through social media. There is a loss of the human touch. Jesse recognizes that and he pleads for a reversal- he is a highly successful and very young businessman who lives his truth. He gives the reader so many ways of supporting the “salesman” profession. Rightfully so, he believes that we are each salesmen in life and he is so right. Thus to allow us to be the full sales people we need to be, both personally and professionally, he offers a system, a platform, so well and so carefully stated, and which he organizes so carefully. The book is divided in a very logical fashion and the reader can easily re- read sections- my highlighter was on hand as was my smile. As a teacher, I was always selling something- reading,writing,thinking- and the best teachers believe in the importance of the personal connections. Today, the educational field feels the loss-with Covid- of those personal connections that need to be among pupils,teachers and families. Jesse makes sure that the traditional expectations are met- punctuality, hard work, experience -but it is the personal- and the honest joy as well as the success it brings- that will bring the salesman to life. It is a credit to Jesse that he longs to bring so much to sales and he hopes his sharing will give the reader a reawakening to new ideas, the better ideas that he believes in so firmly. Even in his epilogue, Jesse touts the benefits of patience and the personal; his five years in the creation of this book supports those beliefs and I hope his ideas are incorporated into our lives because the business of America has always been business.

A perfect blend of OLD school and NEW school

As a CRM professional, I am constantly looking at my personal experiences to see how technology has changed the way I am treated as a consumer, how I treat others as a professional and how sales experts position themselves and their products in a competitive market. Carry that Quote is a perfect blend of taking the best from the past and blending it with the new ways afforded by technology and new processes. The often forgotten hand written note... such an easy thing to do and in this electronic world it makes a wonderful and lasting impression. This book is for everyone, not just sales. Well, I guess it is just for sales as we are all in sales. Whether you are selling a product or selling yourself in an interview, many of the tips and tricks are applicable. A great read. A great tool for people who are just starting their career BUT ALSO a great read for those that have been in sales for years and want to gain an edge or adapt their sales style. 5 thumbs up!

An excellent primer for a life (not just a career) in sales

This is a fantastic primer for each college graduate heading into industry, or anyone considering a customer facing role. I have yet to read a book that so simply and honestly spells out the day-to-day behaviors of what sales people do. Most literature on the sales profession is bombastic, hyper dramatized, and lacks the intellectual and emotional honesty needed to hook the reader. CTQ breaks that mold and will certainly stick with me for many years to come. The author opens up about his own mental and emotional wellness on the road; his legacy as a sales person; and the meaning and purpose behind the profession. This book adds much needed structure and purpose to a profession that, I agree, carries a negative stigma...and really shouldn't. CTQ is a short read, and accessible to people of all backgrounds--I finished it in a day. I sincerely wish I had a copy when I started carrying my first quota. I'll be sharing it with many of my colleagues.

Amazing sales book, unlike any others I have read! 100% must buy!!

Carry that quota is an incredible book and I can't recommend it highly enough. I often find other sales books I have read to be extremely dry and hard to read (too much around frameworks and sales methodologies). Jesse perfectly captures the life of a sales rep and what makes this profession so incredible and rewarding. This book is perfect for all sales professions regardless of whether you are first starting out or a seasoned veteran. Jesse provides great insight into what makes this profession so rewarding and actionable steps you can take to become more successful. His examples are relatable and can be applied in any sort of client facing environment. I couldn't recommend this book enough! You won't be disappointed and it will pay for itself 1000x over with all the extra commissions you will make. Thank me (and more importantly Jesse) later.

If you are considering a career in sales or you are a tenured professional, this book is for you. It is an absolute page turner filled with practical, tactical and helpful advice. Jesse is extremely authentic and provides actual executable strategies to be better not only as a "salesperson," but as an overall professional. I found his thoughts and advice to be spot on and a rare authentic voice on this topic. He's humble, walks through key learnings throughout his life, and also shares best tactics that are easy to replicate. His stories are real, enjoyable and relatable. Although I've been in sales for a while, I learned so many new helpful insights into the profession that I will apply and encourage others to apply immediately. Get this book now! Carry That Quota is exactly what the subtitle promises: Sales Tactics and Stories by the Rep, for the Rep. Jesse Rothstein does a great job sharing his experiences and giving an honest perspective of all that comes with carrying a quota: the diversity of the role, the highs of the win, the pressure and strain to hit numbers (and hit the road), the tenacity it takes to succeed, the dedication that it takes to master a craft. Although this is always framed through a salesperson’s lens, and speaking to the sales profession, Jesse’s self examination, his dedication, and his methods for success could be applied to anyone looking to master a craft. The techniques and tips listed could easily be replicated, not just in commercial roles, but anyone looking to hone their craft as a professional. For anyone interested in a career in sales, this is a useful and enjoyable read.

If you are in sales, or are considering a sales career: read this book.

There is a real nuance to sales. Because of that, there is a similar nuance to teaching it. Jesse manages to capture and convey the complexity of success in our often confusing role with remarkable clarity. Expect to have those "aha" moments, when someone describes a pattern in your life that you have never consciously recognized, but immediately understand. These moments have allowed me to reflect on my own role in new ways, and learn things about my self both personally and professionally. Jesse has done a tremendous job writing a book that as a salesperson, I could not put down. In addition to commanding my attention, it has also functioned as an incredible "how-to" guide for a successful life in the sales profession. If you are in sales or considering it, read this book. Perhaps more importantly if someone close to you is in sales, definitely BUY this book!

How to sell and close in today's crazy world!

It isn't often that an Ivy league guy "gets it". Carry That Quota brings what it's like selling today into perspective. The book captures how selling has both drifted and evolved from relationships to a hybrid of face to face and "techno-selling". The timing is so perfect because clearly any of us who sell for a living have had to pivot(sorry-very overused)word. After watching millions of people lose jobs, clearly no matter what you do from a dentist trying to upsell patients while drilling a cavity(I swear it happened to me!) to dealing with the challenges of cutting a price to keep a customer, Carry That Quota may very well be the launch of this generation's next sales guru a la Tony Robbins/Joe Girard or Zig Zigler. I'm going to send it to all of our customers!!!
